Awesome value and great program! July 19, 2010 wavxwizard Been doing video editing for years, mainly staying with simple and basic MyDVD. But after many, many frustrations with that product, I decided it was time to try something new. After much research, and utilizing the free trial download, it seemed like a no-brainer to purchase PD8. I've now completed several projects, both video and slide show stuff, and I'm loving it more and more as I learn new functionality. It's so flexible. In fact, I'm amazed of all the features you get for the cost. I'm still wishing basic things could be done more simply, like being able to click a box and actually have the slide show fit the music (without it repeating photos, etc). But I'm finding out you can accomplish the same things in other ways, due to all the flexibility. It also has so much opportunity for extensions and customizations, with a great community website to boot. The only other small frustration I've learned is that it will start burning video that actually can't fit onto the DVD. They really need to fix that. I believe other programs can have the same problem as well. I have not yet tried the direct publishing to youtube, but that's there too.
Oh, one thing you want to know early on is learn to lock the 'tracks' separately. They basically default to being linked, so if you are editing a slide show and deleting some photos, it deletes that section of the audio track as well. Beware. ;o)
Anyway, you will love this product. I only wish I had more time to truly learn the power of it all!
Great software! July 7, 2010 grumpysister (Bell Buckle, TN) I have used CyberLink products for years, always satisfied. Easy to use and lots of creativity. I would recommend this software instead of Adobe. Got a great price on Amazon and super fast shipping as always. Was delivered 3 days earlier than scheduled even though it was free shipping. :) Very pleased with CyberLink and Amazon!
Disappointing June 28, 2010 Ricky I was excited to get this product it I was going to make a "birthday" movie - all the the guests at my b-day party had a role and I even built props ( I used to work at Disney studios ) I saved the project as a rough cut, basically removing the out-takes. It was a couple of weeks before I got back to it, but when I tried to start the application
it just stopped. I spent hours over several days with cyberlink tech support ( they give you 30 days phone tech support ) and I was hung up on, tricked into waiting for a e-mail with instructions, basically they were more interested in getting me off the phone than helping me. The people I talked with were definitely not native English speakers. I have reinstalled Power-director several times, re-downloaded the program, updated my graphic card drivers - and spent way too much time on the phone with this mess and of course there is no hope of a refund beyond 30 days even if it doesn't work. I just bought pinnacle studio 14 -
Does not work with Windows 7 June 14, 2010 Dave5150 (Monterey, California) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I feel like I made a donation to Cyberlink ! I could not get this program to work at all. I am a very experienced windows user with a degree in computer service technology. I called tech support multiple times and spent a lot of time on hold and being handed off to different techs. I even had a hard time restoring my computer to normal working conditions after the suggested fixes I got from them. When I finally requested a refund they said, "Sorry, you are past the 30-day refund time period." What can I say, they conned me out of the price of this program. I think they deliberately dragged their feet to get past the 30 day refund period. I will never buy any Cyberlink program in the future.
ok the trial version is better. June 14, 2010 A. Diaz (Aus, Tx) The reason I bought this was because I made a dvd of my vacation from the trial version. There are certain bad things about buying the disc from Amazon but not Amazon's fault.
First I wanted a disc I could download the program from. I wanted a backup that wouldn't be affected by viruses. Well the disc that comes from the box doesn't work. I had to call Cyberlink, prove I didn't steal my disc, and they sent me a downloadable link with a code that worked.
I still don't have a disc I can download the program from again in case I need to for whatever reason.
The shortcomings of the full version is that the pips or characters don't come out as clear as in the trial version. I can only use my photoshop pictures in the trial version.
My advice is to keep using the trial version. You can also download the trial version from the internet.
