Better than I expected July 16, 2010 Charles Bellingrath (West Hartford, CT, US) As a former owner of various dictation programs, I have been pleasantly surprised, I use it with most programs.
MacSpeech Dictate July 9, 2010 Tim S This is a fantastic product and it saves me many hours a week. It is the first dictation program I've used that is worth using.
do not buy this product - it's not worth the frustration June 27, 2010 M. Cemenska (Boston, MA) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I used to use DragonDictate on the PC and it worked fine. When we switched to the MAC, I bought this product. I'm planning on buying a PC and switching back. This product is not ready for prime time. While it is possible to dictate new text without too much problem (note I didn't say zero problems), when you get ready to try to navigate an existing document and make changes, get out your anti-anxiety meds. First off, there is next to zero navigation support. In the PC product you could do a "select" and then an 'unselect' if it wasn't the right one. No chance on this product - there is no unselect. Tech support said to use "press the key page down" and identify some unique sequence of words. Try doing that a bunch of times. So you get to the point that you have to use the key board - then things really go south. It gets in some mode that it won't accept dictation - only commands. And it stays there. Or it takes every 'select' to be 'select all'. Or it crashes. Nothing like losing the text you spent tons of time on - especially since it took you double the time because you were using MacDictate.Like a previous reviewer, I am constantly having to use "scratch that", which gets really annoying. I would say, don't buy this product. Buy a PC instead.
BTW: I have tried to work with tech support on the problem. I keep being told to reinstall, create a new profile, and turn cacheing off. That seems to be the full range of suggestions. Frankly, they have a poor interface that almost forces you to use the keyboard which results the product hanging or crashing. Seems like a bad design.
Great, but needs USB Adapter for Bluetooth June 25, 2010 Michael Evans (Houston, TX) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The program seems to be running very well, but as others have said, you MUST read the manual. Amazon recommendations include a Caliso bluetooth headseat and charger. What is missing in the recommendation is one for the Plantronics Bluetooth USB Adapter BUA-100. Dictate will not function properly without a USB connection. This was confirmed by the support site. Bottom line: if you want to use bluetooth with Dictate, buy the adapter (Amazon has a very good price.)
Read the Fine Print June 18, 2010 R. Ellison (Texas) 0 out of 13 found this review helpful
I recently bought Nuance's Dragon program for a Microsoft based PC. It did not work. When I tried to install it I got a message that the company knows it is not compatible with my version of Windows (XP). It is deceptive to withhold that information from shoppers. I have a new Mac and wanted to find a voice recognition program for it, and I see that Nuance is it. I would not buy from this company. It is throwing $$ away. For any class action lawyer looking for a good one, read this from the company's website:
Burlington, MA, February 8, 2010 - Nuance Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: NUAN) today announced financial results for its first quarter of fiscal 2010, ended December 31, 2009.
Nuance reported GAAP revenue of $263.0 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2010, a 21.3% increase over GAAP revenue of $216.8 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2009. The Company reported non GAAP revenue of approximately $284.6 million, which includes $21.6 million in revenue lost to accounting treatment in conjunction with the Company's acquisitions. First quarter fiscal 2010 non GAAP revenue grew approximately 16.4% over non-GAAP revenue of $244.4 million in the same quarter last year.
