5 out of 5 stars It's Grrrrrrreeeeeeeaaaaat!   April 26, 2010
M. Robinson (WASHINGTON, DC, US)
It's an Apple product, so it works great - what more need I say. The new OS speeds up machine performance incredibly. A must buy if you enjoy machine performance. I life and I work are great as well. And you can load the programs on all ofyour Macs. It's a great deal for three great products.

5 out of 5 stars best upgrade value   October 2, 2009
Nicholas P. Snyder (Chapel Hill, North Carolina United States)
If you're still waiting to upgrade from Tiger (perhaps you have a Power PC which cannot use 10.6) this is the best value for your money. Either the single user or family pack (which allows up to five installs for each software suite) includes Apple's OS X Leopard as well as the most current versions of iLife and iWork. iWork is Apple's simplified alternative to Office while iLife is a suite of programs that work together to manage your digital files and channel your creativity.

Consider that the cost of this box set beats the individual upgrade prices for each of these programs.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome as always   September 24, 2009

Fantastic deal to have all this new software and OS for our old Macs in one reasonable package! Install was a breeze and now we've extended the life of the family's machines - plus have a couple upgrades left in case we buy something used that needs it. We're set!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent in both value and functionality!!   September 20, 2009
Aaron B. Kulbe (Happy Valley, OR)
To begin with, the Mac Box Set represents an excellent deal in terms of value. Especially if you buy the Family Pack. This lowers the average price to just over $40 a machine for the full suite of software. On competing platforms, that would be near impossible to do.

In terms of functionality, WOW. They (Apple) say no new features, but there are some killer features here - namely GOOD support for Exchange. Performance is noticeably faster.

One thing I've tried to do this time, as a sort of experiment, was to see how much *less* I could get by with, in terms of software I install. I'm amazed at the level of productivity you can achieve, with just the Apple applications. You just don't get this level of functionality out of the box, on competing platforms.

Apple seems to have fired a shot across the bow of their biggest competitor, with including Exchange support. I can say that it just works. This is a foray into the Enterprise space. I know, because that's where I use my Mac the most, and this is business-ready for sites that were just waiting for Exchange to work. You can schedule meetings, see meeting room availability... all the things you couldn't do with older versions, or software from the other company. :)

This time around, I decided to do as clean an install as I could, and not go the traditional route of using the Migration Assistant. I had the old install for over 4 years (which, alone, is a testament to how stable the OS is... being able to upgrade 4 times, with no issues) I had a lot of tweaks and changes I'd made to my system, and I wanted to make sure I started from as clean a slate as possible.

Here are some recommendations I'd make, before you do the upgrade. Check out your list of applications, and look to see what is compatible, and what is not. I would look at hardware, as well. I had an aircard that didn't work once I installed Snow Leopard. That said, other companies and developers seem to be catching up quickly. It took a week for the wireless card provider to release drivers. It works great now.

For the applications, I had two small plugins that I use that weren't ready on the day of release. It took them about a week to release working updates, as well.

All of this said, I am VERY pleased with Snow Leopard, and can't recommend it enough!! If you are considering buying, but still have questions, leave some comments. I want to be as helpful as I can, and will provide assistance where I have the answers.

5 out of 5 stars Mac OSX, iWorks, iLife   September 9, 2009
N. T. Ruffner (Depoe Bay, OR USA)
This review is for software, so the questions are, did Snow Leopard, iLife and iWorks perform as expected and was value received. The answer to both is yes.
